This song is about the many different things people experience as they go through life. When you run into a metaphorical roadblock, what do you do? How do you overcome it? This song is about seeing life as an epic journey rather than focusing on all the hardships you may come across, though acknowledging that hardships do exist. Almost every stanza includes some kind of contrast: courage & fear, sunshine & rain, surrender & war. But don't think of these as opposites or as highs and lows. Because if you're able to face your fears, you can become more courageous. Learning to dance in the rain is about being able to see the silver lining in situations that may get other people down. And while sometimes it's valuable to lay down your arms and stop arguing about something, at other times it can be far more important to fight for what you believe in.
