Coming Home (for Concert Band)

When I wrote this piece, I imagined a weary traveler homeward bound or a soldier returning from war. The piece alternates between a somber, undulating theme denoting the seriousness of the expedition and more lighthearted, almost dance-like sections recalling some pleasant experiences along the trip or perhaps some victories past. The spirited coda combines both ideas and builds to a large climax when at long last the sojourner’s journey comes to a close.
